Secondary Education Grades 6–8 80–85% Mastery

Greetings, Sow'N Seeds parents, scholars, friends, and partners. I am honored to serve alongside my co-founder, Kanitha Metzger, as we work toward our shared vision of providing middle-school-aged children with a high-quality and equitable after-school educational experience.

Our goal is to empower scholars to succeed academically while providing meaningful opportunities for character development, leadership, personal growth, and service.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education and serve as a State-Certified 7th-grade English educator and lead teacher in the UPA School District. Throughout my career, I have taught students in grades 6 through 8.

I also served for three years as an English teacher and lead at Detroit Country Day School, teaching grades 6 and 7. During that time, each of my classes consistently achieved an 80–85% mastery goal by the end of the academic year.

I have also pursued graduate studies through a Business Master's Program in Organizational Leadership, further strengthening my ability to lead, mentor, and create effective educational programs.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband of 25 years and our three children. Together, we enjoy serving through our church and supporting our community through the nonprofit organization on which this program is based.

“College is not for everybody, but education is. We must cultivate the gifts in our youth and prepare them to succeed in every aspect of life.”

12 Years in Education, Assistant Principal, Educational Leadership

Hello, Sow'N Seeds parents and scholars. My name is Kanitha Metzger, and I am one of the visionary founders of Sow'N Seeds Youth Group, an academic latchkey program serving middle-school-aged children in Detroit.

Our mission is to provide a high-quality and equitable after-school educational experience that empowers scholars to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. We create opportunities for academic growth, character development, leadership, service, curiosity, and resilience.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Education from Wayne State University and my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Michigan–Dearborn.

I am a passionate educator with 12 years of experience and currently serve as an assistant principal. My experience in teaching and school leadership has strengthened my commitment to creating structured environments where every scholar feels supported, challenged, and valued.

When I am not working with Sow'N Seeds, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two children. I also enjoy creating faith-based content, gardening during the summer, cooking with my family, reading, and thrifting.

I believe education is a lifelong journey shaped by meaningful experiences, continuous learning, curiosity, and resilience. My goal is to inspire a lasting love of learning among the children of Sow'N Seeds.

“We are planting success, growing scholars, and helping young people unlock their potential to transform the world.”
